The seventh article in the series: Why Prefab Modular Construction is a Smarter Fit for Schools.
School leaders embark on building programs for many reasons and prefab constructions can deliver them outstanding results with far less hassle. Whether for; accommodating increasing enrolments, catering for an innovative pedagogy, improving student outcomes, facilitating collaborative teaching and learning, meeting strategic objectives or improving staff retention and satisfaction, the advantages of a modular, prefab build directly benefit the Principal, School Leaders and Teachers.
Compared to the general working population, Principals and School Leaders are extraordinarily committed people. They work long hours and experience higher intensities of job demand yet report significantly higher satisfaction levels regarding their personal achievement and place far more importance on values! (1) When surveys consistently identify their two greatest stressors as the Sheer Quantity of Work and Lack of Time to Focus on Teaching and Learning (1), it makes sense to eliminate more of the former so as to increase time spent on the latter.
Previous articles in this series outlined how a prefabricated, modular building approach is specifically beneficial in school settings: environmentally, financially, in terms of reduced project management, shorter timeframe, less disruption and better quality. Perhaps it is now time to recognise Principals, School Leaders and Teachers as Australia’s nation builders and promote prefabricated modular, rather than traditional building approaches to empower their core purpose?
